About JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC
Like other JUVÉDERM® fillers, VOLBELLA® is hyaluronic acid (HA) based, but VOLBELLA® is the only member of the JUVÉDERM family that’s formulated specifically for the lips. Thanks to a proprietary crosslinking technology called VYCROSS™ and a less dense concentration of HA particles, VOLBELLA® creates subtle results that are especially suited to the lips. In addition to adding volume to the lips, VOLBELLA® can even add a subtle shine and hydration that comes from within.
JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® was approved by the FDA in 2016, and its safety and ability to create noticeable, yet subtle results is well-documented.
What Is Treatment Like?
VOLBELLA® is administered by a trained provider in a Kaiser Permanente clinic. Treatments usually take 30 minutes or less. Your provider begins by cleansing your skin to prepare it for injection. VOLBELLA® is administered in a series of brief injections using a very fine needle, and since the product contains anesthetic, discomfort should be mild. The number of injections you have and where specifically on your lips they are applied depends on the results you’d like to see.

Am I a Candidate?
Because VOLBELLA® doesn’t require surgery or even anesthesia, most adults who are in generally good health are suitable candidates for treatment. During your consultation, your provider will ask you questions about your specific aesthetic concerns to better understand your motivations for treatment and to ensure that VOLBELLA® is right for you. He or she may recommend another type of filler or even fat injections.
What Can I Expect Before and After Treatment?
Although no special preparation is necessary, your provider may suggest that you arrive early in case the use of topical anesthetic is indicated. However, VOLBELLA® comes formulated with lidocaine, a powerful anesthetic, to limit discomfort.
Swelling and redness are normal after injections, and may be eased by applying a cold compress.
The results of VOLBELLA® take effect immediately. Because there’s no downtime, you’ll be able to return to your usual daily activities as soon as you’d like, all while enjoying your beautifully enhanced lips.

Are There Any Risks?
Serious risks associated with VOLBELLA® and other injectable fillers are rare. More commonly, patients experience localized symptoms, such as bleeding, bruising, tenderness, and itching. These are normally mild and resolve on their own within a few days after treatment.
