Alyn Kim, MD
Job TitleHead and Neck Surgeon
I am a head and neck surgeon, or ENT (ear nose and throat) doctor. I was drawn to the field because of the variety of ways in which a head and neck surgeon can improve a patient’s quality of life using precision and dexterity. From saving a child’s life by retrieving a foreign body in the airway to resecting head and neck cancer, there is an incredible amount of variety in the field and never a dull moment. In addition, one of the unique aspects of my work that I enjoy, is treating patients of all ages. In fact, I often find myself treating the whole family. What I love most about my job is meeting and caring for people from all backgrounds and cultures.
I completed a fellowship in facial, plastic and reconstructive surgery because it combines my interest in surgery with my interest in facial aesthetics. In addition to ENT procedures, such as tonsillectomy, ear tube placement, cancer resection, and endoscopic sinus surgery, I have specialized training, and a strong interest, in rhinoplasty (nasal reshaping), reconstruction after MOHS surgery for skin cancer, face lifts, and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
My role as a physician is a combination of listener, detective, teacher, and technician. Listening to patients and taking a thorough history, is first and foremost in making a diagnosis. After gathering and assessing data, I present the best options for treatment in as objective a manner as possible. Working at Kaiser Permanente means having access to a wealth of medical information in easy to understand terms that I can offer to my patients, while communicating with them using the latest technology. Most importantly, with a focus on putting patients first, working here means having enough time to spend discussing treatment options. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2016 because of its excellent reputation, and also in order to be closer to my family. Since becoming a physician has been a lifelong dream of mine, I consider it a privilege and an honor to take part in your care.
