Robert Burns, MD
I grew up in Porterville, a small town in the central San Joaquin Valley and started my education in Southern California attending college at Point Loma College in San Diego. I then received my medical training at Loma Linda University and was nominated to Alpha Omega Alpha national honor society and was given the President’s Award for graduating at the top of my medical school class. From that point, it was 5 years of traveling around the country. My internship was completed in Portland followed by three years in Detroit for my dermatology residency where I served as chief resident. I then returned to the Northwest for my Mohs Surgery/Cosmetic Dermatology fellowship in Vancouver, British Columbia.
I have provided care to Kaiser Permanente members since 1998. Kaiser Permanente is a great place to practice medicine because it allows me to treat patients as I would want my family members to be treated. The financial incentives of certain treatment options are removed and I can do what I feel is right for each individual. In this age of “turf battles” between various specialists, it is great to be a partner in one of the few medical practices that encourages a cooperative environment among multiple reconstructive and cosmetic specialists.
The majority of my practice is limited to treating skin cancers in the Mohs surgery clinic and I have performed over 11,000 Mohs surgery cases. It has always been my goal to provide outstanding care in an environment that puts patients at ease. The final cosmetic outcome is of critical importance in all of my surgeries and every effort is made to make the surgical wounds as imperceptible as possible. I also spend time performing cosmetic dermatology in our cosmetic services center in Sacramento. My interests in this area include Botox, Fillers (Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, Sculptra), chemical peels, and cosmetic removal of benign skin growths.
