FAQs

Q: Do I need to be a Kaiser Permanente member to receive services?A: Kaiser Permanente Cosmetic Services are open to everyone. You do not have to be a Kaiser Permanente member to come to our facilities and see a Kaiser Permanente provider for cosmetic procedures. In fact, many of our current cosmetic patients are not members, but were referred by friends or families who have Kaiser Permanente for their health coverage. Whether you are a member or non-member, you will receive the same level of high-quality care. There is also no difference in price for members and non-members.
Q: Are Cosmetic Services covered by my Health Plan benefits?A: Services described here are provided on a fee-for-service basis. In most cases, these services are not provided or covered by Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., and you are financially responsible to pay for them out-of-pocket as you would for any cosmetic procedure at any provider office. If the care is deemed medically necessary, then Kaiser Foundation Health Plan will follow the evidence of coverage for treatment. For additional information regarding benefit coverage, contact Member Services at 1-800-464-4000 or refer to your health plan evidence of coverage (EOC).
Q: Do I need a referral from primary care or dermatology before going to a Cosmetic Services office?A: You do not need any referral. You can make an appointment directly with one of our offices. Click here for a list of our locations.
Q: How is Kaiser Permanente different from other cosmetic offices?A: We have over 40 providers at 20 different locations throughout Northern California. Our providers specialize in a wide variety of procedures. And Kaiser Permanente has been taking care of its members for many years. You can feel confident knowing you’ll get the same high-quality care and service that you get for all your other health needs. Our doctors and staff are backed by the resources of The Permanente Medical Group, which means you’ll benefit from the most advanced techniques and innovations in the industry.
Q: How much do procedures cost?A: Our prices are similar to those you would find at other cosmetic clinics. Our prices vary by procedure and may vary by individual. For example, laser hair removal prices vary depending on the size of the treatment area. For some procedures, like surgeries, it is difficult to know the exact price until you are seen by the provider. For more information, call the location nearest you. Q: What procedures do you offer?A: We offer a wide selection of cosmetic procedures ranging from facials to facelifts. To see a complete list of our procedures, to learn more about these procedures, and to see where these services are offered, click here. Not every service is offered at every location.
Q: Who will perform the procedure?A: Depending on your procedure, you will be seen by a surgeon, dermatologist, registered nurse or a licensed esthetician. All of our providers are licensed clinicians and must go through Kaiser Permanente’s rigorous hiring process. Cosmetic providers must meet the same high quality standards as all of Kaiser Permanente’s providers. To see a list of our providers and to learn more about them, click here.
Q: Why are services only offered on certain days or times?A: Many of our cosmetic providers also perform medically necessary procedures that are covered by Health Plan benefits. That means that our providers see a large number of patients and some may work at several different medical centers. So, they may only offer their cosmetic clinic on specific days.
Q: Do you offer any sales or promotions?A: We offer periodic discounts on some products or services. The timing of these promotions varies from location to location. To see if a location near you is offering a discount, click here, and then choose the location nearest you.
