CoolSculpting®

The FDA-cleared CoolSculpting device can eliminate unwanted fat with minimal downtime. Our CoolSculpting patients in San Francisco, Sacramento, and other areas of Northern California trust KP providers to deliver smooth, even results that reflect the healthy and fit lifestyle they strive to maintain.

About CoolSculpting

The CoolSculpting device uses a patented form of controlled cooling that facilitates Cryolipolysis®—the freezing and destruction of unwanted fat cells. Because fat freezes at a higher temperature than other tissues, the skin and muscle are not affected during treatment.

The CoolSculpting procedure can be safely administered throughout the body. Popular treatment areas include the following:

  • Abdomen
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Double chin
  • Flanks
  • Armpits
  • Back
  • Buttocks

What Happens During Treatment?

The CoolSculpting treatment is completely nonsurgical. When your treatment begins, your practitioner—typically a plastic surgeon or other licensed provider—applies the CoolSculpting handpiece to your skin. The fat is drawn against the cooling panels which freeze your fat cells. Typically, no anesthesia or sedation is required. The treatment lasts for about 1 hour. As the device works, the targeted fat cells are frozen and die in a natural process. Your body processes and expels the dead fat cells through its normal metabolic processes.

After your treatment, there is no recuperation time required. However, you may feel some residual tenderness for several days. As your body processes the treated fat cells over the course of several weeks, you’ll notice your results taking shape.

Am I a Candidate for CoolSculpting?

Although CoolSculpting is nonsurgical and typically quite well tolerated, it’s not appropriate for everyone. The best CoolSculpting candidates are people who…

  • have specific areas of fat they’d like to treat. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure.
  • are at a healthy weight. CoolSculpting works best on people who are not significantly overweight.
  • are not looking for immediate fat reduction. The results of CoolSculpting take several weeks or months to completely develop.
  • are in good health. People who suffer from certain chronic pain conditions, as well as people who are pregnant, should not have CoolSculpting.
