About Me

I grew up in Illinois after my parents immigrated from Taiwan. My father, an OB/GYN physician, always encouraged me to pursue a career in medicine. However, I chose a different path and obtained a degree in electrical and biomedical engineering from the University of Illinois. I realized that working with people, rather than circuits, was a better fit for me. My passion for working with my hands led me to specialize in surgery, a decision that would eventually prove my father right after a decade of medical school and training.

I sub-specialize in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and have been in practice since 2002. My expertise encompasses a wide range of procedures, including rhinoplasty, face/neck lift, browlift, blepharoplasty, lip lift, non-surgical Botox and fillers, facial trauma,  cleft lip and palate, and ear/microtia reconstruction.  Most of my current practice is dedicated to Gender Affirming Facial Surgery for which our regional center of excellence services all of Kaiser Permanente Northern California.

I have the privilege of being an attending faculty member for the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program as well as for medical students from UCSF and Drexel University.  I am responsible for facial plastic and reconstructive surgery training for which I have received multiple teaching awards.  My commitment extends to clinical research and lectures at national meetings.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I am a founding member of Faces of Tomorrow which is a non-profit organization that provides free surgery for children with facial deformities. I have participated in over 18 missions to countries such as Philippines, Ecuador, Myanmar, Honduras, Guatemala, Cambodia, and  India to help make an impact on those in need.
