Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. As the nose is a very prominent feature of your overall appearance, being dissatisfied with your nose can cause considerable self-consciousness. Nose surgery can reshape your nose and bring balance to your face. The results can be very subtle or more dramatic, depending on your specific goals.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty reshapes the nose by removing or reshaping bone and cartilage, narrowing the nostrils, or changing the angle from the nose tip to the upper lip. Nose surgery usually takes from two to four hours, and can be performed under local or general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Nose surgery is not recommended for girls under 13 or for boys under 15.

When it comes to nose surgery, patience is a virtue. You may not see your final results for as long as a year. Bruising and swelling around the eyes usually peaks after the first three days and can last up to two weeks. Avoid strenuous activity for at least six weeks. If you wear glasses that rest on the bridge of your nose, you may need to have them altered, or you can wear contact lenses during your recovery period.
